Kaua’i Public Land Trust Receives Donation of Land from The Canela Group

Kilauea, HI – On February 11th the Canela Group officially handed over the deed to a 17,000 square foot parcel of land in Wainiha, HI.  The generous donation was made in honor of Mary McGregor Ballard to the Kaua’i Public Land Trust.

The land will be preserved in perpetuity for public benefit.  A favorite fishing spot, the parcel is located on the coast just west of Wainiha Bay.  The Canela Group decided to donate the parcel to the Kaua’i Public Land Trust because of the organization’s reputation for conservation and history of successfully acquiring and preserving land on Kaua’i.  The Canela Group hopes that through their donation, the area surrounding Wainiha Bay will look generations from now exactly as it does today.

“The Canela Group’s generous donation will ensure that another part of this beautiful island will remain undeveloped and available for public access and use in perpetuity,” said KPLT Executive Director Jennifer Luck, “as a non-profit land preservation organization we rely on the willingness of land owners to either sell or donate their land to us.  The Canela Group is a committed group of individuals who understand the necessity and importance of conserving open space on Kaua’i.  We are honored that they chose to work with KPLT.”

Kauai Public Land Trust is a local, independent, non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the exceptional qualities of Kaua’i’s land for the public’s benefit.  Through its ability to acquire and monitor Kaua’i’s resources in perpetuity, KPLT can assure today’s community that the beauty of Kaua’i will endure for generations.
