New York Land Trust Policy Update--Governor Spitzer Proposes to Increase Land Trust Grants program to $2 Million and Maintain EPF at $250 Million

Governor Eliot Spitzer’s Executive Budget for 2008-09, released on January 22nd, contains a $2 million appropriation for the New York State Conservation Partnership Program (NYSCPP). This represents a second doubling of funding for this program by the Spitzer administration!  If approved by the Legislature, this increased funding will have transformational impact in our ability to increase the capacity, reach, and effectiveness of land trusts across New York State.

Lobby Day: Tuesday March 11

Come to Albany on March 11 for Land Trust Lobby day, when New York land trusts will talk directly to their legislators about funding for land conservation including the Governor’s proposed $2 million for the New York State Conservation Partnership Program (NYSCPP), increased funding for the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF), expansion of the existing sate Returnable Containers Law (Bigger Better Bottle Bill), and support for the Community Preservation Act.

New York’s Conservation Easement Tax Credit:
A Guide for Landowners and Land Trusts


Download our new 5-page guide to get answers to frequently asked questions about New York's new conservation easement tax credit. Taxpayers whose land is restricted by a conservation easement may receive an annual New York State income tax credit of up to 25% of the school district, county, and town real estate taxes paid on the restricted land, up to an annual maximum of $5,000 per taxpayer. $225 Million Environmental Protection Fund Approved!
Shortly after 11pm Friday, June 23rd the State Assembly passed and the state leaders finished the environmental budget by approving a record $225 million for the 2006-07 Environmental Protection Fund (EPF).
