Strategic Conservation Planning Through a Freshwater Lens

It’s a question all conservation organizations face:  given the urgency of development pressures, how can we focus on saving the most important land in our area when we have limited resources?  The answer is “strategic conservation planning.”  But, what exactly is it, and how can it be used to protect critical freshwater resources?  Come join your colleagues within the Great Lakes watershed to learn the basics of strategic conservation planning, from learning the major components of a successful planning process to investigating various high-tech and low-tech methods and decision-aiding tools used in crafting conservation plans.  Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with your colleagues working with freshwater issues and learn new tools that you can use to pull together a well-reasoned strategic conservation plan.

This seminar will be led by Ole Amundsen, Strategic Conservation Program Manager at the Conservation Fund.

Coalition of Ohio Land Trusts – Statewide Land Trusts Meeting

Come join us on Thursday, May 29, 2008 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm at the Stratford Ecological Center in Delaware, OH for the Coalition of Ohio Land Trusts’ Spring Statewide Meeting. 

Our keynote speaker will be State Representative Tracy Maxwell Heard (D-26).  She is a full-time legislator whose professional experience is vast and varied.  Download her biography.

Other meeting highlights include a special program, “The Role of Mitigation Easements in Land Conservation”, a summary of recent State and Federal land conservation policy initiatives, and Land Trust news and updates.  Download a meeting agenda and map to Stratford Ecological Center.
