Background
A Tradition of Support
For over 20 years, the Land Trust Alliance has provided leadership and
training to help land trusts develop the necessary skills to conserve land
for the benefit of their communities and natural systems.
In 2005 Land Trust Alliance completed
a comprehensive evaluation of all of our training and education programs
to ensure that they are as useful as possible to the land trust community. The
result of this evaluation led to the development of this new training
curriculum based on Land Trust Standards and Practices.
Responding to an Identified Need
With this new curriculum, Land Trust Alliance is responding to land trust requests for
an intentional and coordinated training series to help all land trusts
implement Land Trust Standards and Practices.
“These courses look great – they cover all of
the issues land trusts have been wrestling with in the last few years.”
John
Hoffnagle, Land Trust of Napa County (CA) Interest in this type of
training program has increased as land trusts prepare for a new voluntary
land trust accreditation program that will be fully operational in 2008.
The new curriculum will focus first on the indicator
practices - those
practices from Land Trust Standards and Practices that indicate a land
trust is operating in an ethical, legal and technically sound manner.
Participation in the training
curriculum and the accreditation program will help land trusts ensure
the long-term protection of land in the public interest.
