Rand Wentworth
President
Rand Wentworth is President of Land
Trust Alliance, a Washington, DC based land conservation
organization that provides policy, lobbying, and training
services for America’s 1600 land trusts. Prior
to joining Land Trust Alliance in 2002, he was Vice President
of the Trust for Public Land and founding director of its
Atlanta office. Previously, Mr. Wentworth was president of
a commercial real estate development company. He is
a graduate of Yale University and holds an MBA in finance
from Cornell University.
He has
testified before the Senate Finance Committee and the House
Ways and Means Committee and serves on the Ethics and Accountability
Committee of the Independent Sector. The Atlanta Regional
Commission presented Mr. Wentworth its Visionary Regional
Leadership Award and the Urban Land Institute recognized
him with its Community Leadership Award for creating a
river greenway in Atlanta. Morehouse College has
honored Mr. Wentworth for expanding the Martin Luther King
Jr. National Park in downtown Atlanta. |

Mary Pope M. Hutson
Executive Vice President
Mary
Pope M. Hutson joined
Land Trust Alliance as Vice President in August of 2002 and
is currently the Executive Vice President. Prior
to working for the Alliance, she was Executive Director of
the Lowcountry Open Land Trust (SC) and founded and chaired
the SC Land Trust Network. Mary Pope received a Bachelor
of Arts from Sweet Briar College in 1983 with a concentration
in International Affairs. She is a native of Charleston,
South Carolina.
She
has worked as director of educational programs for Historic
Charleston Foundation. She was appointed by the Governor
of South Carolina as the first woman to serve on the South
Carolina Department of Natural Resources Board. She served
as a political appointee for President George H. W. Bush
at the American Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya as Special Assistant
to the U.S. Ambassador. In the 1980’s,
she worked for the US Department of the Interior in Guam
and the U.S. Virgin Islands. She was a Legislative Research
Assistant to U.S. Senator Jesse Helms. In 2000, she served
on the Bush-Cheney transition team for the U.S. Department
of Interior for Fish and Wildlife issues and territories. |

Catherine Scott
Chief Operating Officer
Catherine Scott joined the Alliance in June of 2007 and is currently the Chief Operating Officer. As COO, she will manage operations for the senior directors for all conservation programs, education, finance, policy, communications, information services and technology, and fundraising.
A graduate of Dartmouth College and an attorney trained at Stanford Law School, Catherine has done exemplary work in the nonprofit, government and private sector, amassing the right combination of experience we need to lead the Alliance as we face new challenges. For the past seven years, she has served as the Director of Land Conservation for the Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC), where she supervises seven senior directors and field offices. |
