Dear Friend,

Welcome to the inaugural issue of the Land Trust Alliance's eNews Brief! Each month we’ll give you the latest news and resources to assist you in your land conservation work. We’ll give you highlights on public policy, training, new funding opportunities and much more.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped strengthen the land trust community over the past year. Together, we stopped a Congressional proposal to cut our tax incentives, prevented harsh federal regulations and launched a new accreditation program to ensure public trust in our work.

As we begin 2006, I am inspired by the progress that land trusts are making to protect land throughout America, and we at LTA are working hard to develop tools and training to help you accomplish your goals. I look forward to working with you to save those places that we all cherish.

Sincerely,
Rand Wentworth
President, Land Trust Alliance

Accreditation News

A selection committee of several LTA board members and the co-chairs of the Standards and Practices Program Design Steering Committee are working hard to narrow down the list of 13 finalists for the accreditation commission from the original pool of 130 applicants. We are heartened by this outpouring of interest by so many highly qualified candidates. The LTA board of directors will approve a final slate of commissioners at their meeting on February 3, and details will be announced shortly thereafter.
